My 5 Favorite Coffee Places in Attika/Athens (part 1)

1. Prasini Tenta (Πράσινη Τέντα) at Lykavittos/Lycabettus Hill.

Since I remember, Lykavittos Hill has been my favorite place in all of Attika. I will dedicate a whole blog post to this place. Now, back to the coffee.

The most well-known tourist place on the top of Lykavitos is Orizontes Lycabettus, which I strongly do not recommend. It is overpriced with no good quality of products.

I suggest going a little further down the hill to visit the Prasini Tenta, which is a more local place with significantly higher quality, starting from the music and service to the food & drinks itself. It offers a beautiful panoramic view of the whole city, the Acropolis, and the sea.

I propose having a coffee of your choice, a dessert, a glass of wine, or a cocktail to fully indulge in the pleasure of the moment.

This place has special energy that pulls me back there again & again, even during the winter season, when the gas heaters make my body and soul warm.

2. Dionysos Zonar's near Filopappou Hill.

As referring to the special energy of the place - we move to the Dionysos Zonar’s.

At first sight - nothing special.

However, drinking a delicious coffee with the view of the Acropolis from behind creates a remarkable moment.

The restaurant is far from typical touristic restaurants, those near the Acropolis, and offers a feeling of calmness and closeness to the ancient monument. The Parthenon lets you admire its side from behind, keeping you away from the touristic chaos.

The restaurant’s service is excellent as the drinks & meals offered.

3. Piu Verde at Papagou.

We move further away from the city center to the Papagou neighborhood.

Piu Verde is a restaurant located inside a park, where the trees cool you down during hot summer days. The ambiance is joyful and the place is aesthetically pleasing, offering a variety of simple meals and more innovative desserts.

4. Nero Voulagmeni Lake (Εστιατόριο Λίμνης) at Vouliagmeni Lake.

The Vouliagmeni Lake is known for its therapeutic and healing properties. It is located deep inside the mountain in an underwater cave that’s never been fully explored and a few divers have drowned trying.

Because of its constant warm water temperature and its rich content in hydrogen sulfide, the lake has functioned as a spa since the end of the 19th century.

Although there is an entrance fee to enjoy and swim in the lake, you can visit the nearby restaurant and enjoy a cup of coffee or lunch with a beautiful view of the lake.

5. Yasemi Cafe Bistrot at Plaka

The Yasemi Cafe Bistrot is located at Anafiotika (Αναφιώτικα), which is one of the most picturesque neighborhoods of Athens, called “a hidden gem”.

Wherever you decide to sit down and enjoy your coffee - the magnificent aura of the place will make it worthwhile.

Nonetheless, I recommend Yasemi Cafe, especially for its delicious, homemade, and great price-for-value desserts.
